Goals:

Increase farming insurance coverage with the following actions, to:

a) Support farmers by reducing the premium of their farming insurance.

b) Increase the participation of the farming sector in the purchase of farming insurance.

c) Foster the development and consolidation of prevention and protection mechanisms for farmers throughout Mexico.

Coverage:

These domestic and temporary programs are established pursuant to the PEF regulations.

Target Population:

Agricultural and cattle farmers, without discrimination, purchasing protection from insurers against farming risks, provided they meet the regulations.

Beneficiaries:

Farming Insurance

Agricultural and cattle farmers purchasing insurance within the following coverage categories, provided they are updated in their payments of premium or dues:

a) Climatic: drought, moisture excess, frost, low temperatures, floods, hail, fire, hurricanes, cyclones, tornados, whirlwinds and storms, warm weather, lack of farming ground and snow.

b) Plant-related: impossibility to plant, lack of germination and clogging.

c) Biological: pests, predators and diseases.

Cattle Insurance

The candidates for this grant are animal farmers, who have purchased insurance for the protection of cattle, fish, bees and fowl, provided they are updated in the payment of premiums and dues, as established in the Regulations.

Elegibility:

Annex B is the application form for the farming insurance premium grant; it includes the requirements. The information must be the same as the one provided for the insurance policy, including insurance certificates, endorsements and proof of payment of premiums or dues issued by the insurers from which the insurance has been bought.

Funds allocated for 2010: 709.6 million pesos
