In order to offer products and services that will actually meet the needs of the population, insurance companies must carry out all sorts of surveys and studies on the many factors influencing, direct or indirectly, the wellbeing of human beings. These actions, all together, form research and development processes that result in new protection products and plans.

The research actions performed by AGROASEMEX allow us to offer the farming sector a wide range of insurance products; on the one hand we have the so called “traditional” insurance and on the other hand, due to its specifications, we offer mass insurance. The first ones are design to be use by private insurance companies and insurance funds and the second category for the Federal Government and other federal bodies to efficiently use their resources when facing catastrophic events impacting a large number of farmers.

All of our insurance products are designed based upon the results of a series of studies, mainly associated to weather and biological factors that have to do with agricultural and cattle farming. Our research actions are permanent and we have a constant exchange of information with public and private organizations. We have carried out joint research projects with the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias (INIFAP) [National Institute of Forest and Farming Research], Comisión Nacional del Agua [National Water Commission], Comisión Federal de Electricidad [Federal Power Commission], Servicio Meteorológico Nacional [National Meteorological Service] and other international organizations dedicated to the study of weather phenomena.

We have created data bases with statistical information about financial, weather and farming yielding aspects. These data bases are updated with the information from the rural sector provided by official offices. These essential tools provide technical support for the optimization of risk analysis, rating, registration and settlement of accidents in order to develop products with larger coverage, which will become development factors for the farming sector.

In Mexico it is frequently heard, in the mass media (radio, TV and printed press), as well as in colloquial jargon, the use of weather and climate as if they were synonyms.

Agricultural Risk Map

Agricultural and cattle farming is a baseline activity for Mexican economy; it generates direct and indirect employment and represents the most important revenue for the active economic population in the rural sector. Evidence shows that the evolution of this sector relies on several factors such as invested capital, input combinations, technology, risk administration, water availability and social, economic and weather factors. Risk analysis must be duly carried out from a comprehensive standpoint.

Product Development and Design

Current demand requires from the insurance market simpler and more efficient risk management plans. We are dedicated to the research of new concepts and plans capable of meeting the agricultural and cattle farming needs, bearing in mind the importance of crossing internal borders and offering new products for unprotected markets.
